Nehru the Architect of Independent India

Delhi is buzzing with events for the Commonwealth Games. This exhibition, 'Nehru the Architect of Independent India,' is one such event. The exhibition will be on display at the Nehru Memorial Museum, Teen Murti Bhavan till the 30th of November 2010.

The exhibit spans the life of Jawaharlal Nehru from the time he returned to India from England and entered the Indian political scene and struggle, to how he led his country after becoming the first Prime Minister of India. His time in politics and as a man of undying human spirit has been shown using archival photographs, words from his own writings and his voice, which can be heard through some of his speeches.

'Tryst with Destiny,' a speech made the day Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India can be heard on these headphones, while looking at the amazing photograph of him addressing thousands at the Red Fort.

We recreated the feeling of being behind bars for the time that Nehru spent in jail.
Added up, he spent more than 9 years in prison.

You can hear Jawaharlal Nehru's speech, 'The Light Has Gone Out,' on these telephones.

This speech was made after Mahatma Gandhi died.
